Clayton Classic Bathroom
This Clayton bathroom renovation was driven by both functional limitations and aging materials, with the client’s primary concern being an undersized shower that no longer met their needs.
The project began as a full gut renovation, allowing us to reimagine the space while maintaining the existing tub alcove footprint. Within that framework, we transitioned from a built-in tub to a freestanding tub, creating a more open and elevated focal point without altering the overall layout.
As is often the case in older homes, the construction presented unique challenges. Sloped ceilings and roofline-driven angles added charm but required thoughtful design solutions to ensure both functionality and visual balance.
Maximizing usable space within a fixed footprint was a central priority. During demolition, we uncovered additional inches behind the existing walls, prompting a strategic pivot in the design to fully capitalize on this unexpected opportunity. This allowed us to expand the shower beyond its original constraints.
We also reimagined the shower layout by converting a former linen closet into a built-in bench within the shower, enhancing both comfort and usability which the client has been thrilled with.
Architectural details were thoughtfully layered throughout, including custom wainscoting inspired by the home’s original profiles, updated plumbing fixtures, tailored cabinetry with door styles that reflect existing moldings, and refined lighting, all working together to create a cohesive and space.
The result is a bathroom that feels more spacious, highly functional, and thoughtfully designed, balancing the home’s original character with a refined, updated aesthetic.
